KING OF CUPS

a.k.a. "PRINCE OF THE CHARIOT OF THE WATERS"

The King Of Cups sits on his throne which rides on the sea with a ship on one side and a dolphin leaping on the other. Water must be prevalent and is in all the Cups court cards and this king's astrological correspondence is Pisces (note the fish on his necklace) which means he is almost always hiding something. A responsible man with creative intelligence, he is swift but not enduring and is usually calm on the surface yet passionate and volatile underneath. Water symbolizes the subconscious realm of the human mind and the King of Cups refers to that creative spark which ignites and gives birth to unconscious images. (This is also illustrated in the Page of Cups with the fish coming out of the cup in that card.) He is quick and enthusiastic but only for a short time and on the downside he can be shallow and cursory.

Also note the square shape of the bottom of his throne which indicates he prefers structure or a structured environment. He is normally not one to judge others for their faults and is always a sympathetic supporter. His elemental designation is "Fire of Water" which means there is a constant battle between his fiery soul and his watery heart. These opposing influences often pull him in two different directions making him insecure and  indecisive. Moderation with this King is critical because if you lean too far into his fiery side you will be burned by the flames and if you slip into the deep waters of his emotions, you may be drowned. Stay in the middle and you're safe.
